In Susie's Kitchen: Oven-roasted Sausage & Potatoes

So here I am, knee-deep in a 15-month relationship loving to play the housewife role (minus the cleaning) and cook dinner, and I am scouring the "Food & Drink" section of Pinterest for at least 30min every day looking for fun, new things to try out. I'm dying over all of the extravagant pastas and salads, asking my boyfriend, "How does _____ sound?" "Omg _____ sounds amazing." "I'm totally making ______ tonight!"
His response? Every. Time?
"I just want something with meat and potatoes. Meat and potatoes, Susan."

So here I am, feeling defeated with a potato and sausage meal, only to find that 1) not only is this the easiest meal in the world, but 2) it is also incredibly delicious.
This is a must-try and I cannot tell you this enough. Plus, you most likely have half of the ingredients on hand!

Ingredients:

  • 4 russet potatoes (I used 3 medium red potatoes and 2 russet potatoes because that's what I had)
  • 1 small white onion
  • 1 lb. smoked sausage
  • 1/2 packet of zesty italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. olive oil
Cooking instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
  • While the oven is preheating, chop potatoes into small cubes/slices/whatever (doesn't actually matter)
  • Slice sausage
  • Mix potatoes, sausage and onion into a bowl with all of the seasonings and olive oil, and toss
  • Cover a cookie sheet with foil and toss everything onto it, distributing evenly
  • Cook for 45 min, stirring slightly every 15 min (to make sure the potatoes cook evenly)
And that's it! So easy, all you have to do is wait for it to cook! Smells amazing and serves 3-4.

PS- I always add more seasoning/onions/etc. to my own taste. I like flavorful foods, so I almost always add extra, and I encourage you to do the same! Try it out as it is, and if you want more- add more!

in susie's shop (shop my closet!)

Growing up, there were few words I dreaded hearing more than "It's time for spring cleaning."
I am a hoarder by nature and I simply cannot help it. Try as I may, I cannot kick the fact that I have an emotional attachment to every single thing that crosses paths with me (who knows if I'll ever need that receipt from 3 years ago? I should keep it just in case). My absolute worst hoarding is found in the way I cannot untighten my grip on my clothing. You wouldn't believe the excuses I make in order to hold on to an article of clothing. Oh that ugly old thing from 9 years ago? I may need it for a costume party 7 years from now. Probably should hold onto it.
But as I'm growing older and my closet space is growing far more limited, I've been trying to find a new home for some of my gently used items! Thanks to a severe lack of sleep and a bit too much coffee, I found myself spring cleaning at 4:30am today.
Some new items are now up on my blog shop- check them out! :')

NYFW: I prefer the street style

Moment of silence for her bag

(images via vogue.com)

It is safe to say that my entire year revolves around one week: F/W NYFW. Spring/summer is always "eh" to me because I really can't be bothered with bright colors (or any color at all, really) and the come-and-go trends it always has to offer. Fall/winter fashion week is like a week-long glimpse of heaven. I kid you not when I say I just pulled an all-nighter to catch up on shows I missed while I was at school (mom, if you're reading this, I swear I was studying and not watching fashion shows all night).
And as much as I have loved the shows I've seen thus far (you go, DKNY, you go)....my absolute favorite part of fashion week, without fail, is the street style images that pop up in every nook and cranny of my social media. I may or may not want to cry when I scroll past 500 photos on instagram of my favorite models walking around my favorite city before walking on a runway for my favorite designers.  I also set my homepage to Style.com during NYFW, so there goes a few hundred more tears every time I get on the internet (which is admittedly far too often).
I would almost say that I look forward to the flush of street style images more than the shows. Obviously I'm interested in what Marc Jacobs is trying to get me to wear next fall, but I'm equally as interested as what my favorite models (s/o Sasha Luss) are wearing off-duty. It gives the realm of fashion a bit more realism, I suppose.

Which do you prefer?

festival fever

I made a post about a month back during all of the Coachella craziness about my festival fever, and it's safe to say that it's still going strong. Now that the weather has warmed up, I'm busting out all my favorite summer playlists and all I can think about is how much I'd like to be roadtripping to all sorts of festivals this summer.
So since I'm so festival-crazed right now, I decided to pull inspiration from that for this post!

recycling

I've been trying desperately to be more responsible with my money and stop my incessant shopping, but with that decision, a huge problem arises: an uninspired wardrobe. The same old boring things I've worn a hundred times.
I knew I couldn't cut out shopping entirely, but I decided to set a budget for myself. $15/week on clothes (at the very most), and that's it. So where did I go first?
Back to the trusty ol' thrift store down the street.

The "dress" I'm wearing in these photos actually isn't a dress at all...it's a women's XL shirt that I decided to revamp for myself. And instead of new shoes and a new bag, I recycled the shoes and clutch I took with me to prom (which I originally had no intentions of ever wearing again).

I've been spending a lot more of my free time going through blogs for inspiration on how to re-style old clothes and save a bit of money, and I'm having a lot of fun doing it! :')

layer up with free people

Image via Free People
The easiest way to stay warm this winter is to layer, and there's no reason not to do it with style.
The key is to keep everything lightweight so that you're not drowning in clothes, but still able to keep warm.
While layering clothes keeps you toasty, layering accessories adds an edge to your look. And who does that better than anyone? FP.
Check out their "The Road Less Traveled" lookbook to shop this look above, and get inspired!

ALSO- voting for NYFW starts Dec. 31! Don't forget- if you vote for me, you'll have a chance to go with me! xo
