a little bit of life lately

The past week or so has been a crazy one. Crazy good.
For starters, I got a job an awesome job at a Buy/Sell/Trade Fashion Exchange called Uptown Cheapskate (if you've never heard of it, click the link to find out about it...they're awesome! See if there's a location near you!) and that's where I've spent the majority of my time this week. I'm learning a lot about fashion and clothing, so I couldn't be more excited to join the company.

I'm also excited to announce that my blog is growing! I have several summer giveaways lined up and will be posting more about them soon, so  be sure to check back for that!

  • Studded black bag- c/o nowistyle Japan

I hope you're all as excited for summer break as I am! (Graduation for me is in 2 weeks! Holy cow!)

new york city girl

City streets buzzing with taxi's honking and the constant clack of heels, cigarette smoke hanging heavy in the air, masses of bodies hustling past at all hours, coffee shops around every corner, dark and musty subway stations beneath you...

I feel like my New York City dreams have passed what's considered "daydreaming" and entered more into the realm of "constant-state-of-mind." I couldn't pray any harder about one of these internships in NYC working out if I tried. At this point, I'd give nearly anything to be living in the city doing what I love. Ever since my visit two summers ago, I've been even more city-crazed than before. Visiting was like a short glimpse into what I hoped my future would hold...and what I still hope it holds.
No matter how much work it takes, I'm certain I'll get there. I just hope it's sooner rather than later!

Edit: Just found out today that regardless of whether any of the internships work out, I'm still heading up to the city with my best friend Maggie for about a week or so! Yay!

festival fever

I made a post about a month back during all of the Coachella craziness about my festival fever, and it's safe to say that it's still going strong. Now that the weather has warmed up, I'm busting out all my favorite summer playlists and all I can think about is how much I'd like to be roadtripping to all sorts of festivals this summer.
So since I'm so festival-crazed right now, I decided to pull inspiration from that for this post!

recycling

I've been trying desperately to be more responsible with my money and stop my incessant shopping, but with that decision, a huge problem arises: an uninspired wardrobe. The same old boring things I've worn a hundred times.
I knew I couldn't cut out shopping entirely, but I decided to set a budget for myself. $15/week on clothes (at the very most), and that's it. So where did I go first?
Back to the trusty ol' thrift store down the street.

The "dress" I'm wearing in these photos actually isn't a dress at all...it's a women's XL shirt that I decided to revamp for myself. And instead of new shoes and a new bag, I recycled the shoes and clutch I took with me to prom (which I originally had no intentions of ever wearing again).

I've been spending a lot more of my free time going through blogs for inspiration on how to re-style old clothes and save a bit of money, and I'm having a lot of fun doing it! :')

baby, put on heart-shaped sunglasses

I swear I'm going crazy with the weather going from 80 to 40 to 60 every single day. I never know when it's appropriate to put away all of my sweaters and winter coats, and I'm glad I haven't, because it got super cold and rainy for a few days this week. It's supposed to be sunny and warm again tomorrow, but today was very in-between, so I opted for a huge, cozy grandpa cardigan and drop-waist dress.
I spent the evening running around Hobby Lobby with my little sister grabbing supplies for "Craft Night." I ended up very happy with what I made, which I'll be posting about soon :')

striped saturday

After having to deal with losing an hour of sleep from daylight savings + coming back to school after spring break, I am exhausted. This has felt like the longest week ever.  We finished our second to last issue of the school newspaper, prom is getting stressful, I'm rushing to finish scholarship applications, and it just feels like everything is all happening at once! I thought second semester of senior year was supposed to be easy....whoever said that is a liar.
I'm really and truly sorry for slacking a bit on blogging. I'm trying to pick up the pace a bit :')

For everyone who's just starting Spring Break, enjoy! And for those of you still trying to recover from SB like me, get some rest this weekend!!

on the ranch

photos by Mary Gibson
I'm back from a nice few days in Oklahoma! It was a nice little break from reality, but unfortunately, school starts up again tomorrow. Spring break was nice while it lasted!
The place we stayed at was really neat- we had our own little cabin/ranch house which backed up to a huge field of cows and watering holes (where the cows drank from and we fished from) and there was a nice little hot tub out back on the deck for the evenings. The sunsets were beautiful, and there were two sweet kittens who sat on the back porch waiting patiently for us to come out and visit with them all day! It was so quiet and peaceful up there, I'll miss it!

How was everyone else's Spring Break? Anything exciting? :')

Springtime, where are ya?

So now that I've got my sunflower pants, I'm 100% ready for spring.
I'm obsessed with flowers (favorites: sunflowers, white daisies, and baby's breath) and I can't wait to see them blooming everywhere soon! Spring...hustle!!
Speaking of spring, I'm off for Spring Break next week and I couldn't be more ecstatic. I'm taking a 3-day trip up to Oklahoma with my family to stay in a little cottage on a pond and go fishing. Sooo happy to bring up a few good books and just r-e-l-a-x. Second semester of senior year is so tedious and frustrating, and I have been waiting for this break with arms wide open!

Do any of you have fun plans for spring break?

lack of creativity

I'm sorry I keep posting awful tri-pod photos that aren't really edited. My photog sister is insanely busy, so I've been left to my own (not up to par) devices....yikes
As much as I love winter, I feel like it really drains my creative side. I haven't been shopping in ages, I haven't been writing as much, taking nearly as many photos, or putting hardly any effort into outfits (at least for school).
I just feel like things have been super dull lately. So today that changes. I made a list of things for myself to do to help inspire my creativity (I'll be posting it on instagram later, so follow me if you want to try it out, too!)
It's probably due to the fact that I have 0 time for anything during the school year, and endless amounts of time to do everything during the summer...but it's still frustrating. So hopefully that changes after this weekend! :')

60's queen

I. Love. The. 60's.
Today I found this little dress that I got (for $8, might I add) in the back of my closet so I tossed it on, added a little bit of a red lip, and rummaged through my dad's dresser until I found his bandanas.
Result? Little 60's Susie.
No one was available to take pictures for me today, so I broke out the old tripod and tried to do some myself. Yikes.
I spent a good half hour running around and having the most ridiculous photoshoot with myself...but it was a lot of fun, I'll admit.
Anyways, enjoy! I hope all of you who get tomorrow off from school are as grateful as I am!!

daisy denim

Hey, everyone! I'm sorry I've been so MIA lately- I've been stuffing my nose into so many good books lately that I nearly forgot I had a blog with awesome followers to keep up with! Forgive me!
A short little update on what's been going on in the past week or two with me: I got asked to prom (yay!), our 3rd issue of my school's newspaper came out, I've started blogging for a new website (I'll give you more info once my posts are up!), I opened up a little online shop, and I've successfully replaced 2+ hours a day that I used to spend on the internet with spending time with The Lord, instead!
I hope all of you guys are doing well! Are any of you guys going crazy searching for a prom dress like me?!

doberman

So happy to be sitting in my pajamas drinking hot tea and listening to soothing music as I type this. Friday nights rock (especially when you're an antisocial little homebody like myself).
I spent the afternoon taking these photos with my sister (Mary, you rock!) and then less than an hour later I got to go shoot one of my friends for his album coming out soon! Such a fun, photo-filled day.
I got this awesome t-shirt dress in the mail a few days ago from Oasap and I can't even put into words how much I love it! The awesome studding at the top mixed with the Doberman print on the front is almost too much perfection in one article of clothing.
The first thing my friend said when I walked into class this morning was "That is so you." And it is.

Happy weekend, everyone!! :')

Only in Texas do you have 40 degree weather one day, and almost-80 degree weather the next.
Aside from getting sick from all the temperature change, I'm loving the nice weather! I've been pulling out all my skirts and spending as much time outside as I can. For this outfit, I layered my super comfy gray sweater with a very ornate, detailed skirt. I liked how the simplicity hit the detail on the skirt, giving you just a peek of it. It was really comfy, but still cute (the only way to go!).
