the city that never sleeps meets the girl that does

Although they say New York City is "the city that never sleeps," this girl is (quite unfortunately) back in Texas, and ready to crawl under some cosy blankets and have her first full night of sleep in days. But I can't say I wouldn't rather still be out exploring The City...coming home was tough, as it always seems to be.
I think every time I visit the people get more and more beautiful and it gets harder and harder to leave.
I couldn't help snapping endless photos of beautiful people and their beautiful outfits to keep as personal inspiration. Where else would be a better place to get inspo other than NYC only a day after NYFW?
Walking through A. Wang, Jil Sander, Kate Spade, and various other designer showrooms was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. My first thought was, "These clothes actually exist outside of tumblr. Real people are actually wearing them. I can actually touch them."
And then there were all of the crowded, too-small coffee shops and bakeries with smells so delightful that they dipped outside the door and pulled you right in. I think I spent just as much money on coffee as I did clothes, and I can't say I'm ashamed of it. I am a coffee lover through and through.
But what enticed me most of all was the oversized knit/leather jacket/long pants & boots weather. I could not get enough of it. I am one of those people who buys sweaters and jackets year-round, even though we only have about 2 full months of winter here. For us, "fall" is 70 degree weather that lasts for 2 weeks, so I never get the chance to walk around my autumn clothes in full comfort, but here I did. And in September, at that. September & October have always appeared to be the poster months for fall to me, but in Texas we generally don't experience any fall action until late November. Getting a September dose of it was a breath of fresh air.
Overall, whether I was roaming the bustling streets of Chinatown, gawking over spectacular showroom pieces, admiring the view from our hotel window overlooking Times Square, or mariachi dancing with boys from Brooklyn (yep...really happened), my trip certainly wasn't one to forget, and I'm already counting down the days until my next visit.

new york city girl

City streets buzzing with taxi's honking and the constant clack of heels, cigarette smoke hanging heavy in the air, masses of bodies hustling past at all hours, coffee shops around every corner, dark and musty subway stations beneath you...

I feel like my New York City dreams have passed what's considered "daydreaming" and entered more into the realm of "constant-state-of-mind." I couldn't pray any harder about one of these internships in NYC working out if I tried. At this point, I'd give nearly anything to be living in the city doing what I love. Ever since my visit two summers ago, I've been even more city-crazed than before. Visiting was like a short glimpse into what I hoped my future would hold...and what I still hope it holds.
No matter how much work it takes, I'm certain I'll get there. I just hope it's sooner rather than later!

Edit: Just found out today that regardless of whether any of the internships work out, I'm still heading up to the city with my best friend Maggie for about a week or so! Yay!

Happy "it's-almost-the-end-of-the-week" Thursday, everyone!
Just started back at school and I'm beyond ready for another break. Anywho, this was my outfit today! I'm glad I've started picking out my outfits the night before, because I seriously could not function this morning. Trying to adjust to getting up at 6am after waking up at noon for the past two weeks is hard. I've probably had 5 cups of coffee today and I still feel like I'm sleepwalking.

  • Skull blouse- H&M

  • Skirt- Wet Seal
  • Tights- Target
  • Bag- c/o Banana Taipei

Don't forget to keep voting for me (and you, if you vote!) to go to New York Fashion Week this February!!

2013: new year, new style

Although I'm not big on New Years, I did make two resolutions for myself: blog more & be open to new changes.
The first new change I wanted to implement into my life is a little wardrobe revamp. My closet is full of crazy patterns and prints, despite how much I love minimal style. Those pieces are really hard to transition, as fashion changes so rapidly. This year, I want to start investing in more high-quality, simple items that I'll be able to wear easily for years.
This is not to say I want to stop wearing my crazy-patterned leggings and tops, because I don't. Not just yet. I do, however, want to mature my wardrobe just a bit and splurge on a few high-end staple pieces.

What are your New Year's resolutions? And fashion-related resolutions for you, this year?

Oh! And don't forget to vote for me for NYFW here! Your vote is an entry for YOU TO GO, TOO!

new york nostalgia

Sitting in Central Park for lunch

Times Square

Sooooo about this time last year I was in New York City and I'm really feeling nostalgic. My biggest regret was not taking more pictures. I saw so many beautiful people, places, things....just remembering all of the things I could have been photographing but didn't is so frustrating. I want more than anything to go back soon (and hopefully be off to school there next year!).
If any of you live/go to school/are visiting/have recently visited NYC- I am jealous and next time take me with you.

there's nothing you can't do, now you're in new york

What a lovely breakfast to wake up to, especially after a rough night of being sick.

In Central Park- it was truly beautiful.
That awful soy-protein smoothie was probably what made me so ill. I'm pretty sure the guy who made it had never made a smoothie before..
